Camping Checklist

There are very few essential items you need for camping, but there are a few more items which are needed to make the expeirence nicer and then a few luxury items.

Table of Contents

Essential Items

There aren’t many essential items. Actually three.

  1. Tent / Hammock
  2. Sleeping Bag
  3. Roll Mat / Airbed

Thats it, the tent / hammock is to protect you from the elements, a sleeping bag to keep you warm and the roll mat to stop you losing body heat to the ground.

Things like, cooking you can always eat out. If you really just want to try camping these are the essential items.

if you are going during our summer and warm nights are expected (nights not days) you could potentially use a quilt instead of sleeping bag, but you might feel the cold, remember your in a tent and not your normal bedroom.

Essential Equipment

Must Haves

must have camping gear

These are still pretty much essential have’s but if you need to you can go camping witthout them.

  1. Cookers and fuel
  2. Lighting
  3. Table
  4. Chairs
  5. Pillow

These items are almost essential, taking your own cooking equipment and food will really reduce the costs of going away, which means you can go away more often. Table and chairs will allow you to sit around the campsite comfortably.

I don’t usually take a pillow, but take a pillow case with me and put the next days clothes in, they are then nice and warm when I wake up.

Nice to haves

These are the items you start to buy when you have been camping for a few years and are buying extra’s, you have you essentials and must have’s and are looking for a few extra. Most of these items you will probably have just used more general items around your home

  1. Cooking Stands
  2. Frying Pans
  3. Cooking Sets
  4. Camping Cots (for babies)
  5. Plates, bowls, cups
  6. Eating and cooking utensils
  7. Fridge
  8. Games and Toys
  9. BBQ
nice to have

Initially you will probably just take your pans, plates etc with you, but after a while you will get some specific camping equipment.

A fridge can be a good investment as it means you can store more and reduce your costs even more.

Luxury Items

Luxury items

These item’s are a more luxury, to make camping that little bit easier.

  1. Solar Charges
  2. Sofa
  3. Clothes Wardrobe

Remember though, you only need the three essential items, everything else is a bonus – so if your going camping for the first time, just get the basics and make sure you love camping, I can’t think of a reason you wouldn’t but there are a few people in Britain which camping holidays aren’t for them.
