Acton Field Camping Site

Acton Field Camping Site is a traditional campsite in three hectares of gently sloping pasture at Langton Matravers, near Swanage in Dorset, with wide views over Swanage Bay, the Purbeck Hills and across to the Isle of Wight. The site lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Isle of Purbeck, a one mile walk through grass and wildflowers from the Jurassic Coast path, with Dancing Ledge and Chapman's Pool nearby and the Square and Compass pub within walking distance. Pitches take tents, campervans, motorhomes and caravans, with electric hook-up available, and campers choose their own spot on the open field. This coming season the site is taking reserved pitches only, and the ground was once a quarry, so rock pegs are worth packing. Facilities are basic but clean, with toilets, showers, washing-up sinks and freezers for ice packs. Dogs are welcome on leads with the owner's agreement, and this is a genuine family campsite rather than a resort. Open fires are not allowed, so barbecues and fire pits must be raised off the turf. The reward at Acton Field Camping Site is the quiet and the view, with sheep, steam-train whistles, sunsets and starlight. The site is open from 31 March to 31 October 2026, with pitches from £12 a night.
