About this site

Seven pitches, a communal campfire and a herd of grass fed Hereford cattle set the tone at Champs Field Campsite, the small working farm site at Home Farm on the edge of Colton village in North Yorkshire. York is 5 miles away, Leeds and Harrogate are both about 20 miles, and Tadcaster is roughly 4 miles west, so it makes a brilliant budget base for city trips. The meadow field, home to a pony called Champ for 37 years, takes tents, campervans, motorhomes and caravans, with electric hook ups at £8 a night and a newly built shower block (the shower is metered at £1 per 7 minutes). It suits campers who like things simple and quiet: there is one toilet, dogs are not accepted at all, quiet hours run from 10.30pm to 7am and weekend stays need a two night minimum. The Kay family have farmed here since 1948 and sell their own grass fed beef and local produce from the farm shop, along with firewood for the fire. The 2026 season is under way at Champs Field, with pitches from £10 a night booked online.
