About this site

Holmsley Campsite is a large New Forest touring and camping site on the grounds of a former World War Two airfield, run by Camping in the New Forest. It sits on Forest Road at Burley, with a Christchurch BH23 7EQ postal address that places it right on the Dorset and Hampshire border inside the New Forest National Park, surrounded by open heath, ancient trees and grazing ponies. The sandy beaches of Christchurch and Bournemouth are a short drive south, and Burley village with its cycle hire is close by. Pitches suit tents, touring caravans and motorhomes across grass and hardstanding, with electric hook up pitches allocated on arrival, plus furnished bell tents for anyone travelling light. Pitching elsewhere is open plan with no marked bays, so you choose your own spot, and larger groups can use the rally fields. Facilities include toilets and showers, a refurbished shop, a takeaway open Wednesday to Sunday, laundry, a self service dog wash, a play area and EV charging. Dogs are welcome. This is a seasonal site, open from late March to early November, so it does not suit winter breaks, and disposable barbecues are not allowed anywhere in the forest. Prices at Holmsley start from £28.60 a night for two adults and two children, booked through the Camping in the New Forest system.

Where you'll be

Holmsley Camping In The Forest Site

Good to know

Is Holmsley Campsite in Dorset or Hampshire?
It sits on the border. The postal address is Christchurch BH23 7EQ, which is a Dorset postcode, but the site itself lies within the New Forest National Park, an area mostly in Hampshire. Either way it is a forest site rather than a coastal one, with beaches a short drive south.
Can I bring a dog to Holmsley?
Yes, Holmsley is dog friendly and even has a self service dog wash on site. The open heath and forest tracks around the campsite give plenty of walking, but you are asked to keep dogs under control near the free roaming ponies and other animals that graze around the site.
Is the campsite open all year?
No, Holmsley is seasonal. For 2026 hardstanding and grass pitches run from late March to early November, and the furnished bell tents open from late May to the end of September. There is no winter camping here, so plan visits for spring, summer or autumn.
Are campfires and barbecues allowed?
No open fires or fire pits are permitted. Barbecues must be designed for cooking and raised off the forest floor, and the site asks campers not to bring disposable barbecues. Outside the campsite, no barbecues of any kind are allowed anywhere in the New Forest under the local action plan.
Does Holmsley have electric hook ups?
Yes, there are electric hook up pitches, though at Holmsley these are allocated on arrival rather than chosen in advance. Non electric grass and hardstanding pitches are also available, and because pitching is otherwise open plan, groups cannot always be guaranteed to camp side by side.
How much are pitches at Holmsley?
Prices start from £28.60 a night for two adults and two children, booked through the Camping in the New Forest online system. Minimum stays apply at busy times, with three nights over bank holiday weekends and two nights on weekends during the school summer holidays.
