About this site

The small members only campsite on the medieval Baxby Manor estate at Husthwaite is Skonoker, a Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site in the Vale of York, roughly 3 miles from Easingwold and 7 miles from Thirsk in North Yorkshire. Despite the Certificated Location tag it carries in some listings, the Club lists it among its Certificated Sites, which means Club members only, with space for up to five caravans or motorhomes plus tents on a level, well sheltered plot of about three quarters of an acre. Pitches are hardstanding with electric hook up, wifi is available and dogs are welcome. The name comes from a house recorded on the Baxby estate as far back as 1606, and the surrounding countryside sits between the Howardian Hills and the southern edge of the North York Moors, with Byland Abbey, the White Horse at Kilburn and Easingwold market place all within easy reach. It is listed as an adults only site, so it suits couples after a genuinely quiet base rather than families; the estate runs The Hideaway, a separate family campsite, close by. The 2026 season at Skonoker runs from 3 April to 31 October, with member prices listed from £15 a night through the Club booking system.

Good to know

Who can stay at Skonoker?
Skonoker is a Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site, so pitches are for Club members only. Like all Certificated Sites it takes a maximum of five caravans or motorhomes at a time, plus tents, which keeps this small site quiet even at the height of summer.
Is Skonoker the same as Baxby Manor?
Skonoker is a separate small members only site on the Baxby Manor estate at Husthwaite, and takes its name from a house recorded there in 1606. Baxby Manor also runs The Hideaway, a larger family campsite and glamping site, on the same estate beside the village.
Does Skonoker have electric hook-ups?
Yes, Skonoker offers hardstanding pitches with electric hook up on its level, well sheltered plot of about three quarters of an acre. Wifi is also available. The Club listing notes storage facilities, a pub, a restaurant and fishing all within reach of the site.
Are dogs allowed at Skonoker?
Yes, pets are welcome at Skonoker according to the Camping and Caravanning Club listing. The lanes around Husthwaite and the nearby Howardian Hills offer plenty of walking straight from the site, and there is a pub within easy reach for a pint after the walk.
How much does Skonoker cost and when is it open?
Member prices are listed from £15 to £18 a night through the Camping and Caravanning Club, and the 2026 season runs from 3 April to 31 October. Booking and exact pricing are handled through the Club, so log in as a member to check availability and reserve.
Does Skonoker suit families?
No, Skonoker is listed as an adults only site, so it best suits couples wanting a quiet base. Families after children's activities are better served by The Hideaway, the separate family campsite and glamping site on the same Baxby Manor estate at Husthwaite.
