About this site

The Paddock Caravan Site is a five-pitch certificated site out on Sedge Fen, a pocket of drained fenland between Lakenheath and the Cambridgeshire border in far west Suffolk. RSPB Lakenheath Fen lies about 3 miles away and is the real reason to pitch up here: reedbeds, marsh harriers and bitterns booming across the water in spring, audible from the campsite itself. Lakenheath village and its shop, pubs and takeaways are also roughly 3 miles off, Brandon is about 7 miles, and Ely with its cathedral is under 9 miles west. Five pitches is the entire site. It has operated as a Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site, which caps it at 5 caravans or motorhomes and limits booking to Club members, and it offers electric hook-ups, a toilet and shower block, dogs welcome and an all-year season. Campfires are not permitted. This is flat, open, big-sky country with no bar and no playground, so it suits birdwatchers, walkers and self-contained tourers rather than families hunting entertainment. The Paddock has changed hands and its old website now carries nothing but a change of ownership notice, so ring 01353 774953 before you travel to confirm the season, the current price and whether Club membership is still required.

Good to know

Do you need to be a member to stay at The Paddock Caravan Site?
Historically yes: The Paddock has run as a Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site, and those sites take bookings from Club members only. The site has since changed owners and we could not find it listed on the Club's current site finder, so ring 01353 774953 to confirm whether membership is still required.
How many pitches does The Paddock Caravan Site have?
Five, and that is the whole site. Certificated Site rules cap this kind of pitch at 5 caravans or motorhomes at any one time. It is a small, quiet fenland field rather than a holiday park, so book ahead: with only five pitches, availability disappears quickly in spring and summer bird watching season.
How far is The Paddock Caravan Site from RSPB Lakenheath Fen?
About 3 miles. RSPB Lakenheath Fen is the main draw for campers here, with reedbeds, marsh harriers and bitterns. The former owner noted that bitterns and the first cuckoo of the year could be heard from the campsite itself. Lakenheath village is also roughly 3 miles away, and Brandon around 7.
Are dogs allowed at The Paddock Caravan Site?
Yes, dogs are welcome at The Paddock. The surrounding fen has public footpaths, including a path across Botany Bay towards the RSPB Lakenheath Fen reserve, so there is proper walking on the doorstep. Since the site has new owners, confirm current dog rules and any charges when you ring to book.
Are campfires allowed at The Paddock Caravan Site?
No, campfires are not permitted at The Paddock. This is dry, open fenland with reedbeds nearby, so an outright ban is no surprise. The site does have electric hook-ups, along with a toilet and shower block. Check current facilities on 01353 774953, as the site has changed ownership since those details were published.
Is The Paddock Caravan Site open all year?
Yes, our listing records The Paddock as open all year, which is unusual for a small fenland site. However, the site has new owners and its old website no longer publishes opening dates or prices, so we would not travel on that alone. Telephone 01353 774953 to confirm the current season before setting off.
