Why campers love it here
About this site
The White Horse Inn Camping is a small tent and caravan field behind a 17th century Grade II listed freehouse in the village of Tattingstone, south Suffolk, and the pub across the beer garden is the whole reason to book. The site takes a number of tents plus up to five caravans, with electric hook-up for caravans, a toilet block with washbasins and an outside tap for drinking water. Be clear on one thing before you pitch up: there are no showers, so think a night or two rather than a fortnight. Alton Water reservoir sits on the doorstep with watersports, bike hire and walking and cycling circuits around the shore, while Dedham and Flatford, Constable country proper, are about ten minutes away by car. Ipswich station is four and a half miles north of Tattingstone. The inn keeps three guest ales, serves lunches and evening meals most days, welcomes dogs and runs a quiz on the last Friday of every month at £5 including supper. Campers tend to describe the field as flat, quiet and good value, and reserve their warmest words for the pub kitchen and the welcome. The White Horse Inn Camping is open all year and pitches are arranged by phoning the inn on 01473 328060; prices are not published online.
