About this site

Town Head Farm is a simple, members only field site at Askwith, a hamlet just outside Otley on the fringe of the Washburn valley in West Yorkshire. Run under the Camping and Caravanning Club scheme, it keeps things deliberately low key: a small grass paddock for a handful of caravans, motorhomes and tents, with no electric hook up and no toilet or shower block. That makes it a spot for fully self sufficient tourers and hardy tent campers rather than anyone wanting facilities on tap. The reward is the position. The paddock looks over open Wharfedale countryside, with the moors above Askwith rising behind and the reservoirs of the Washburn valley a short drive away. Otley, about 3 miles off, has the shops, pubs and the wooded Chevin ridge, while Ilkley, Harrogate and the southern gateway to the Yorkshire Dales are all within a comfortable drive. Walkers and cyclists tend to love the quiet, which is really the point of Town Head Farm. Club membership is needed to stay, though you can usually sign up on arrival, and the site takes bookings the year round. Pitches are reserved through the Camping and Caravanning Club rather than an online booking engine.

Good to know

Do I need to be a member to stay at Town Head Farm?
Yes, Town Head Farm is a Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site, so it is open to Club members. You can usually join the Club in advance or when you book. As a small members scheme site it takes only a handful of caravans, motorhomes and tents, so it stays quiet.
Is there electric hook up or a toilet block?
No, Town Head Farm has no electric hook up and no toilet or shower blocks. It is a back to basics site, so you need a self contained caravan or motorhome, or to be a well equipped tent camper happy to be off grid. Bring everything you need for your stay.
Can I pitch a tent at Town Head Farm?
Yes, tents are accepted alongside caravans and motorhomes, with the site taking around five vans plus a small number of tents. It is a simple grass field rather than a serviced campsite, so it suits campers who want quiet countryside near Otley rather than lots of on site facilities.
How far is Town Head Farm from Otley?
The site is at Askwith, about 3 miles from the market town of Otley, with its shops, pubs and the wooded Chevin ridge. Ilkley and the Washburn valley reservoirs are close by, and Harrogate and the southern Yorkshire Dales are within an easy drive for days out.
Is Town Head Farm open all year?
Yes, Town Head Farm is open all year, so it works outside the main season as well as in summer. It sits on exposed farmland above the Washburn valley, so pack for changeable Pennine weather in the colder months. Booking is arranged through the Camping and Caravanning Club.
