YHA Grinton Lodge

A castellated shooting lodge built in 1817, YHA Grinton Lodge is a Yorkshire Dales hostel with a small campsite and glamping pods in its grounds, looking out over Swaledale from the hillside above Grinton village. The setting is proper national park country: Grinton and its pub are a 10 minute walk downhill, Reeth sits just across the valley, Richmond is 10 miles east, and the Coast to Coast route passes close by, which makes this a popular overnight for long distance walkers and mountain bikers. Camping is simple and sold per person, with space for around eight tents and no pitches for caravans or motorhomes and no electric hook ups; the car park is about 250 metres from the camping field, so pack to carry. Five heated wooden camping pods sleep two or four, and unheated Landpods add a sleeping under the stars option for up to four more. What campers rate most is the deal: full use of the hostel showers, toilets and self catering kitchen from 6.30am to 11.30pm, plus a licensed bar, breakfast baps and a BBQ area. Dogs camp free with your own tent and cost £5 a night in the pods. The campsite at YHA Grinton Lodge opens whenever the hostel is open, with prices quoted through the YHA booking system.
