Why campers love it here
About this site
The campsite at YHA Helmsley is a small lawned field beside a purpose built youth hostel on the edge of Helmsley, a North York Moors market town, and it is the only place to camp in the town itself. Helmsley's market square, cafes, bookshops and castle are a short walk away, the Cleveland Way National Trail starts in the town, and York, Whitby and Scarborough are all within day trip range across North Yorkshire. Tent campers, Cleveland Way walkers and touring cyclists are the target guests here: limited access means campervans, caravans and trailer tents cannot be accommodated, campfires are prohibited and alcohol cannot be drunk on the camping field under the site's licence. What campers get in return is proper value, with 24 hour access to the hostel's self catering kitchen, toilets, showers and drying room after 5pm check in, plus a licensed bar, cooked breakfasts, a secure bike shed and free parking beside the camping field. Dogs camp free, though they are not allowed inside the hostel. The hostel opens from 1 March to 31 October at weekends and through school holidays, with camping and cabin units at YHA Helmsley from £19 a night.
