Alde Garden Campsite

Alde Garden Campsite is a five-pitch tent site and glamping garden tucked behind the Sweffling White Horse pub, about 3 miles from Saxmundham in coastal Suffolk, and it is closed at present while the business is sold. The owners have wrapped the garden up in its winter state pending a sale, though Badger Cottage and the pub carry on as usual, so contact them before planning a trip to Sweffling. The site itself is genuinely tiny: 5 small tent pitches under the apple trees and beside the pond, the largest taking a tent of 4m x 3m, alongside yurts, a bell tent, a gypsy caravan and a hut on stilts. Facilities are communal and deliberately low impact, with a covered field kitchen, a free campfire and firewood, flush loos, solar showers, a compost treebog and a jungle shower rigged up in the trees. There is no electricity in the garden and no dogs at all, since ducks, chickens and geese roam the place freely. Cars stay in a separate car park, ball games and amplified music are out, and groups are capped at 6 adults, so Alde Garden suits couples and small families far better than anyone after a lively weekend. Framlingham is under 4 miles away and the Suffolk coast at Aldeburgh about 9 miles. The season ran May to the end of September, with tent pitches from £20 a night.
