About this site

Church View Campsite At Suffolk Academy is a 26-pitch campsite on four acres of level lawn just outside the village of Barrow in West Suffolk, sharing its grounds with a sports and events centre. Bury St Edmunds and its abbey ruins sit about 6 miles east, Newmarket is roughly 7 miles the other way, and the A14 is around 2 miles off. Pitches suit tents, campervans, caravans and motorhomes, most with 10 amp electric and water at the pitch, and there are glamping units for anyone who would rather not pack a tent. Walkers and cyclists arriving without a vehicle get their own pitch from £12 a night. Dogs are welcome on leads, one included per pitch. The owners call the site rustic and basic and that is a fair account: there is no WiFi, though the 4G copes. What lifts Church View is how much sits within the grounds: mini golf, foot golf, archery, an escape room, a gym and a cafe bar baking pizza, all charged separately. Quiet hours start at 10.30pm, and a new rule for 2026 keeps school-age children off site midweek outside the school holidays, so light sleepers have a window. The site closes from 1 October until the end of March, and prices are quoted through the campsite's own online booking system.

Good to know

When is Church View Campsite open?
No, it is not open year round: Church View closes from 1 October until the end of March. Enquiries during the winter go by email to the site. The cafe bar runs most days in high season and at least weekends from April to September, so late and early season trips are quieter affairs.
Are dogs allowed at Church View Campsite?
Yes, dogs are welcome and one dog is included with your pitch. Extra dogs cost £3 per dog per night, and the site caps how many it takes overall. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times, must be microchipped or tattooed, and the local Barrow pubs are dog friendly too.
Can you have a campfire or fire pit at Church View Campsite?
Yes, fire pits and barbecues are allowed unless a fire ban is in force. Anything burning must be raised off the ground and an adult must attend it; the site keeps bricks for this. Church View hires out fire pits and sells logs and kindling, so you can travel without hauling your own.
Is there electric hook-up at Church View Campsite?
Yes, most pitches have 10 amp electric hook-up with water at the pitch, on grass, hardstanding or a mix of both. A handful are deliberately non-electric: pitches 13 and 14 in the main field, and 42 to 45 on the quieter Sunset field, which sit furthest from the toilets and showers.
Is there WiFi at Church View Campsite?
No, the site does not offer WiFi. The owners say broadband in the Barrow area is poor but 4G coverage is strong, so most campers use their own mobile data. Note that an older scraped listing claiming free on-site WiFi is out of date and should not be relied on.
How far is Church View Campsite from Bury St Edmunds?
Bury St Edmunds is about 6 miles east of the site, roughly a ten minute drive, with its abbey ruins and Abbey Gardens worth the trip. Newmarket lies around 7 miles the other way and Barrow village is under a mile, with two pubs, a shop and a post office.
