About this site

Chyan Cultural Centre is a back-to-basics wild camping site at Chyan Farm in Halvasso, near Penryn in west Cornwall, where there is no reception and no marked pitches: you find your own space in the fields and pitch up. The farm sits about 4 miles from both Penryn and Falmouth, with a walking route across to Argal and College reservoirs, the subtropical gardens at Trebah and Glendurgan a short drive south, and Falmouth's beaches at Gyllyngvase, Swanpool and Maenporth for sand and sea. Tents, campervans and motorhomes are welcome, but bookings are limited to families and couples (no groups, no hen or stag parties, and strictly no dogs), and anyone wanting hook-ups, entertainment or a laundry room is in the wrong place: facilities run to compost toilets, fresh spring water and hot showers in the solar shower boat house. The setting is the draw, a quiet, no-music farm in Cornwall with a living willow playground of arches, tunnels and dens, a mud kitchen, a small playpark, campfires in metal firepits or braziers (hired on site for a small charge) and a sauna bookable at extra cost. Campers consistently praise the peace and the community feel. Booking is by email with the Chyan camping team, and pitches cost from £7 per adult a night for cyclists and walkers, or £10 per adult arriving with a vehicle.

Good to know

Are dogs allowed at Chyan Cultural Centre?
No, dogs are not allowed at Chyan Cultural Centre under any circumstances. The no-dogs rule is written into the camping terms and conditions for this quiet farm site, which is rich in wildlife, so arrange pet care at home before you book your trip.
Can I have a campfire at Chyan?
Yes, open fires are allowed on the campsite as long as they are contained in a metal firepit or brazier. Firepits and braziers are available on site for a small charge, so you do not need to pack your own to get an evening fire sorted.
How much does camping at Chyan cost?
Camping costs from £7 per adult a night for cyclists and walkers, £10 per adult in a tent with a vehicle, and £12 per adult in a motorhome. Children are £5 a night, under 3s stay free, and extras such as the sauna are charged separately.
What facilities does the campsite have?
Facilities are deliberately basic and off grid: compost toilets, fresh spring water and hot showers in the solar shower boat house. Children get a living willow playground, a mud kitchen and a small playpark, and campers can book the on-site sauna in advance at extra cost.
Can groups or hen and stag parties stay at Chyan?
No, bookings are accepted from families (immediate members) and couples only, and hen or stag parties are refused. At least one member of the party must be aged 18 or over, stays are capped at 14 consecutive nights, and no music is allowed on this quiet site.
How far is Chyan Cultural Centre from Falmouth?
Chyan sits about 4 miles from both Falmouth and Penryn, near the hamlet of Halvasso off the A394. The site is not on a major road or bus route, so allow time for the final narrow lanes, or walk from Penryn via Argal and College reservoirs.
