Downhouse Farm ( Shepherds Hut Only )

Downhouse Farm is shepherd's hut glamping on a 380-acre organic coastal farm at Higher Eype, near Bridport in West Dorset. The hut sits on the Golden Cap Estate with the green hills of Eype rolling down to Lyme Bay, and it is furnished simply and prettily, lit by a small solar-powered bulb and candlelight, with no mains electricity, so this is a back-to-basics stay rather than a plug-in one. Downhouse Farm suits couples after a quiet coastal escape more than large groups or families needing lots of space. The South West Coast Path runs across the farm, Eype beach is about a 15-minute walk away, and Thorncombe Beacon, the highest point on the farm at 155 metres, rewards the climb with wide views along the Jurassic Coast. The farm's Garden Cafe, a well-known stop for walkers coming off Golden Cap, serves organic meat reared on site along with home-baked cakes, scones and cream teas. Dogs are welcome.
