Why campers love it here
About this site
High Nature is an off-grid glamping and camping site on a coastal plateau above the South Devon coast at East Portlemouth, near Salcombe, with yurts, bell tents and tent and campervan pitches. The five-acre smallholding sits 130 metres above sea level in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, between the villages of East Prawle and East Portlemouth, a ten-minute walk from the South West Coast Path and within walking distance of some of the area's most spectacular sandy beaches. Salcombe lies just across the estuary. Campfires are allowed, sea views come as standard and the site is open all year, so it suits couples, families and groups after an eco, back-to-nature stay, plus eco-weddings and retreats. It does not suit anyone wanting a car parked at the door, level easy access or on-site nightlife, since this is a walking, off-grid kind of place. What stands out beyond the yurts is a wild spa with a sauna, field kitchen dining events, courses and retreats, and a genuine focus on organic growing and rewilding, with the site running since 2009. Guests regularly single out the warm, comfortable yurts, the striking setting near the beaches and the friendly, helpful hosts. High Nature is open year-round, and stays are booked through the site.
