About this site

Marsh Farm Campsite is a Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site on a level grass field at Shepley, near Skelmanthorpe and Denby Dale in West Yorkshire. It is a small member site that takes tents, caravans, motorhomes and campervans, with a mix of electric and non-electric pitches in open rural surroundings. The location suits walkers, as the site sits close to the Pennine Way and is a short drive from the eastern Peak District. Holmfirth, the town made famous by Last of the Summer Wine, is about 10 to 20 minutes away, and Cannon Hall Farm near Barnsley is a similar drive, so there is plenty for families and children to do. Shepley village has shops and pubs within a short walk, and a bus stop just outside runs to Holmfirth, Huddersfield, Penistone, Wakefield and Denby Dale. One quirk sets it apart: the owner collects David Brown tractors, once built in nearby Meltham, and visitors can ask to see them. Dogs are welcome and there is a designated dog walk. Membership of the Camping and Caravanning Club is needed to book. The site is open all year, member pitch prices start from £15 a night, and stays are booked through the Club.

Good to know

Can I pitch a tent at Marsh Farm?
Yes, Marsh Farm Campsite takes tents as well as caravans, motorhomes and campervans, with both electric and non-electric pitches on a level grass field. As a Certificated Site it stays small, capped at a handful of units, so it is quiet. Facilities are simple, so check what is provided when you book.
Do I need to be a member to stay?
Yes, Marsh Farm is a Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site, so you book through the Club as a member. You can join in advance online or by phone. It is a small, welcoming site near Shepley that suits families and walkers rather than anyone wanting big commercial-park facilities.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, dogs are welcome at Marsh Farm and there is a designated dog walk on site. The location near Shepley gives good access to the Pennine Way and countryside walks, so it works well for campers travelling with a dog. Keep dogs under control around the working farm and its animals.
Is it suitable for families?
Yes, Marsh Farm suits families. Holmfirth of Last of the Summer Wine fame is 10 to 20 minutes away, and Cannon Hall Farm near Barnsley is a similar drive and popular with children. Shepley village shops and pubs are a short walk, and a bus runs from just outside the site.
When is it open and how much does it cost?
Marsh Farm is open all year, so it works for winter as well as summer trips. Member pitch prices start from £15 a night and run to about £22.50, based on up to two adults and two children. Booking is through the Camping and Caravanning Club once you are a member.
