Why campers love it here
About this site
Mill Farm Leisure Camping and Caravanning Site is a small Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site set in 26 acres of Suffolk countryside at Kelsale-cum-Carlton, about a mile north of Saxmundham, built around a stocked fishing pond. The pond sits roughly 20 metres from the pitches, runs to about a third of an acre and holds carp, roach, rudd and the occasional perch. Barbed hooks, keep nets and fermentable groundbait are all banned to keep the water and the fish in good order, and children need an adult with them who can swim. The location does a lot of quiet work: Snape Maltings is about four miles away, Framlingham and its castle about six, RSPB Minsmere about six, and Aldeburgh roughly seven, so most of the Suffolk coast is a short drive rather than a day out. Mill Farm takes tents, touring caravans and motorhomes on grass, with electric hook-ups, water, waste and chemical disposal points, showers, toilets and a washing up area. Campfires are allowed in designated areas, which is rare enough in Suffolk to be worth the trip on its own, and dogs are welcome on a lead. Rallies are catered for. Set your expectations properly: this is a plain, small, quiet field, and the appeal is the pond, the campfires and the space rather than clubhouses or entertainment. The Poachers Pocket pub is a short walk from the gates. Prices and current opening dates are confirmed directly with the site.
