Why campers love it here
About this site
Pitches: 60 Opening Dates: April To October Welcome to Monstay Farm, a small camp site close to the historic town of Ludlow in the Welsh Marches. We are a traditional working farm set within the beautiful surroundings of the Mortimer Forest. The camping fields are large and there is plenty of space for you to camp away from your neighbours. If you are in a group you can all camp together and we have plenty of hook ups so tents and caravans can be together - perfect for those family or friends get-togethers'. We have some level hard standings for the more sophisticated outfits but do try to keep the fields as natural as possible. From the camp site there is easy access to the forest, where you can walk, mountain bike, bird watch, nature watch or hunt for fossils. The site is perfect for dog walkers as the forest is directly accessed from the farm. You can walk miles and not meet anyone. If you have a mountain bike, we are a few hundred metres from the Bringewood Downhill bike course and there are plenty of bike trails for all abilities in the woods. The lanes of South Shropshire and North Herefordshire offer beautiful cycle routes. You can also hire bikes from Wheely Wonderful just down the road at Elton. The local fossil trail highlights the nationally significant geology of the area and fossils abound on the paths and banks once you know what you are looking for. The farm and forest are rich in wildlife whether birds, mammals, butterflies or reptiles are your interest we can guide you in what there is to see. Or you can just chill and look at the stars! It is very dark here with no street lights nearby - a good idea to bring a torch! We do allow camp fires off the ground and can supply you with logs or you can collect your own which is a great way of getting children out and about. We are very approachable and want you to enjoy your stay so if you have an idea, just ask! We take our stewardship of the environment very seriously. We have solar panels to supply your electricity and new this season are our showers where the hot water is supplied by our new biomass boiler. (The firewood comes from the management of our own and our neighbours woodland including reviving our ancient coppice woods.) Our water supply is from a borehole 300 feet below the camp site and the water is tested to be safe and tastes great! We recycle as much of your waste as we can and encourage you to have as little impact on our environment as you can. Come and experience the real countryside at Monstay Farm
