About this site

Newbourne Woodland Campsite is a tent only, adults only site spread over seven acres of woodland and meadow at Newbourne near Woodbridge, where you choose your own spot and can light a proper campfire. The village sits about four miles south of Woodbridge and roughly five from the beach at Felixstowe, with Newbourne Springs nature reserve on the doorstep and RSPB Minsmere half an hour away by car in the same corner of Suffolk. Newbourne Woodland Campsite books no more than 20 tent pitches at a time and none of them are marked out: park in the paddock, borrow a wheelbarrow and find a corner in the shaded woods or out in one of the meadows. Caravans and campervans are not accepted, there is no electric hook-up and there is no wifi, so this only suits you if the digital detox is the point. No children, no groups over four, no more than three people to a tent, and quiet time after 10pm. Fire bowls and barbecues are lent free, logs and charcoal are made on site, and the Elephant Shed has a woodburner, a fridge and a shelf of books to borrow or swap for the days when Suffolk weather turns watery. Three glamping cabins for two, Kingfisher, Cherry Tree and Hawthorn, sit at the edge of the wood. The 2026 season runs 15 May to 27 September, camping is from £28 a night per tent, and you book by phone or email rather than through an online system.

Good to know

Is Newbourne Woodland Campsite adults only?
Yes, it is an adults only site and children cannot stay. There is no specific age limit set, so if you are thinking of bringing a young teenager the owners ask you to speak to Jen first. The no children rule applies to day visitors as well.
Are campfires allowed at Newbourne Woodland Campsite?
Yes, you can borrow a fire bowl at no charge and light a fire on the stand provided. Only logs bought on site may be burned, disposable barbecues are banned, and a few areas do not permit fires. The owners can suspend fires when conditions are not favourable.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, quiet and well behaved dogs of any size are welcome at no extra charge, with a maximum of two per pitch. Dogs must be on a short lead or tie out whenever they are not in your tent. Request your dog when booking, as there is a cap on numbers on site.
Is there electric hook-up or wifi?
No, there are no electric hook-ups on the pitches and there is no wifi on site. Mobile reception can be patchy too. There are electric points in the Elephant Shed for charging a phone or inflating a mattress, but not for cool boxes or other large items.
Can you bring a caravan or campervan?
No, Newbourne Woodland Campsite is a tent only site, so caravans and campervans cannot be accommodated. Cars stay in the designated car park and you borrow a wheelbarrow to move your kit to your chosen spot. Three glamping cabins are available if you would rather not camp.
When is the site open and what does it cost?
The 2026 season runs from Friday 15 May to Sunday 27 September. Camping is from £28 a night per tent for up to two people, with £5 for a third person and £22 for lightweight backpacker tents. Cabins are £75 to £95 a night. Book by phone or email.
