About this site

Nurseries Caravan Park is a touring and glamping park set among the mature trees of a former plant nursery at Askham Bryan, 3 miles from York city centre, and the same family has run it for more than 12 years. The nursery once grew native English trees, and the survivors now shelter 7 acres of landscaped grounds in open countryside on the south west edge of York, with a cycle path covering the 3 miles into the city, the Askham Bar Park and Ride a few minutes away and a bus stop a 15 minute walk off in Woodthorpe. Touring pitches are level hardstandings with 16 amp hook ups for caravans, motorhomes, campervans, trailer tents and rooftop tents; standard pitches run about 7 metres wide and fully serviced super pitches about 9 metres, but ordinary tents, gazebos and fire pits are not accepted, so ground campers need a different site. The glamping is a cut above: pods sleeping four with private en suite shower rooms, plus the Oakley Horsebox, a converted 1986 Leyland Roadrunner sleeping two. A shop, laundrette, games room, playground and goal wall round things out, up to two dogs stay free on touring pitches, and guests keep mentioning how spotless Nurseries Caravan Park is. The park opens 1 March to 31 October, with touring pitches from £29 a night.

Good to know

Can I bring my dog to Nurseries Caravan Park?
Yes, up to two dogs per pitch stay free on the touring pitches, kept on a lead at all times, and the park asks you to mention them at the time of booking. Dogs are not accepted in the glamping pods or the Oakley Horsebox.
Does Nurseries Caravan Park accept tents?
No, ordinary tents and gazebos are not accepted on the park. The touring pitches take caravans, motorhomes, campervans, trailer tents and rooftop tents, while anyone without a unit of their own is covered by the glamping pods sleeping four or the two berth converted horsebox.
How much is a pitch at Nurseries Caravan Park?
Standard hardstanding pitches cost from £29 a night including 16 amp electric, two people and one car, with fully serviced super pitches from £34 a night. Extra adults pay £6 a night, children over five pay £4, and dogs and awnings are free of charge.
When is Nurseries Caravan Park open?
The park opens from 1 March to 31 October each year. Arrivals run from 1pm with departure by 12 noon, bank holiday bookings carry a three night minimum, and a £25 deposit per touring pitch (£50 per glamping unit) secures a booking.
How far is York from Nurseries Caravan Park?
York city centre is about 3 miles away, and a cycle path runs the whole way in from the park. The Askham Bar Park and Ride is a few minutes away by car or motorhome, and a bus stop in Woodthorpe is around a 15 minute walk.
Are campfires or barbecues allowed at Nurseries Caravan Park?
No campfires: fire pits are not permitted anywhere on the park. Raised barbecues are allowed on pitches though, and barbecue stands can be hired from reception if you have not brought your own, so an evening grill is still firmly on the menu.
