About this site

Orchard Camping is a tiny, family-run campsite on Halifax Road just east of Penistone, set up for walkers and cyclists on the edge of the Peak District. With space for roughly six pitches, it is deliberately small, and the owners run it with a personal touch rather than as a big commercial field. It takes tents and has one hardstanding pitch for a small motorhome or campervan, but there are no facilities for caravans, so tourers with a caravan should look elsewhere. What makes Orchard Camping stand out is everything packed around those few pitches, a campers' kitchen, a games room, a TV room and laundry, plus ready-pitched tents and even cooked meals for anyone travelling light. The Trans Pennine Trail runs close by, and the site sits within reach of the Penistone Boundary Walk and quiet lanes made for cycling, which is why it draws walking groups, cycling parties, Scouts, Guides and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. Penistone town, with its shops and railway station, is a short trip away in South Yorkshire. It is a spot for people who want company and comfort on a small site, not solitude, so book ahead because those six pitches go quickly.

Good to know

What types of pitch does Orchard Camping offer?
Orchard Camping has around six grass tent pitches with electric meters and one hardstanding pitch for a small motorhome or campervan. There are no facilities for caravans. Ready-pitched tents are available for campers who prefer to travel without kit.
How much does a night at Orchard Camping cost?
A motorhome or campervan pitch starts from £20 a night and includes two adults, with children, extra adults and electricity charged on top. It is a small site, so booking ahead is sensible, especially in summer.
Is Orchard Camping good for walkers and cyclists?
Yes, the site sits close to the Trans Pennine Trail and the Penistone Boundary Walk, with quiet lanes for road cycling. Bike hire and shops are nearby, and the owners can point you to routes across the Peak District fringe.
Does Orchard Camping have on-site facilities?
Yes, for a small site it is well equipped, with a campers' kitchen, a games room, a TV room and laundry. Cooked breakfasts, evening meals and packed lunches can be arranged, which suits groups travelling light without kit.
Is Orchard Camping suitable for groups?
Yes, it is a registered site for Scouts, Guides and Duke of Edinburgh groups and welcomes walking and cycling parties. The small pitch count means the whole site can be booked out, making it a tidy base for an organised trip.
