Penrose Camp Site

Penrose Camp Site is a two-field tent and campervan site on a working dairy and arable farm between Helston and Porthleven in west Cornwall, with views across Mounts Bay and the South West Coast Path one field away. Porthleven, the UK's most southerly working port, is under a mile on foot and has a sandy beach, a harbour, pubs, restaurants and a village supermarket; Helston is about 2 miles through the National Trust's Penrose Estate, where a circular walk loops Loe Pool, Cornwall's largest natural freshwater lake. Pitch sizes are unrestricted: pick a spot in either sheltered field and take the space you need, which suits families with big tents and groups camping together. There are no electric hook-ups and caravans are not accepted, so tourers wanting hardstanding and hook-up should look elsewhere. Campfires are allowed, dogs are welcome if kept under control and away from livestock, and two wooden toilet blocks have flush toilets, hot showers included in the price, washing-up sinks and chemical disposal. Martin and Lisa Wallis have run the campsite alongside the farm for 17 years; the herd's milk goes into Cathedral City cheese, the potatoes go to Walkers crisps, and campers keep returning for the spotless facilities and the quiet.
