Smithy House Certificated Site

Smithy House Certificated Site is a small, family-friendly Camping and Caravanning Club CS on the hills above Halifax, a five-van site handy for Calderdale and the moors. It sits at Causeway Foot on Ogden Lane (HX2 8XZ), close to Ogden Water nature reserve and the villages of Wainstalls and Mixenden, with Halifax town centre roughly 3 miles to the south east. The setting is open Pennine countryside, good for walking straight from the gate, with golf, a shop, a pub and public transport all within about a mile. The site has a gently sloping 0.75 acre field with grass pitches, some with electric hook-up, and it welcomes tents, caravans and motorhomes as well as families and dogs. There are no toilet or shower blocks, so you need to be fully self-contained: own sanitation is essential and electric hook-up is metered. As a CS it takes up to five caravans or motorhomes plus a few tents, so book ahead in summer. What stands out is the position and the value, an honest, no-frills upland pitch at Smithy House rather than a facility-packed park. You need to be a Camping and Caravanning Club member to book. The site is open all year, with member pitch prices from £12 a night.
