About this site

Spital Farm Caravan and Campsite is a small, level, grassy touring site at Staxton, about 6 miles south west of Scarborough, sharing its grounds with a 16th century inn, a tea room and a courtyard of small shops. The site sits just off the Staxton roundabout where the A64 meets the B1249, with the Vale of Pickering laid out in front, the Yorkshire Wolds rising behind and Filey's beach about 6 miles to the east. Pitches are well drained grass with electric hook ups, a motorhome service point and shower and toilet blocks close at hand. It suits couples and families using it as a handy base for the North Yorkshire coast, though it is a modest site with a small facility block, and pitches nearest the A64 pick up some road noise. What lifts Spital Farm above a plain stopover is the complex around it: the 16th century Spital Inn pub and carvery stands where a medieval hospital once did, with a bakery, tea room and craft shops a short stroll from your pitch. The site takes tents, tourers and motorhomes all year round, and bookings and prices are handled directly by phone on 01944 711377.

Good to know

Are dogs allowed at Spital Farm Caravan and Campsite?
Yes, Spital Farm is a dog friendly site. There is open countryside on the doorstep for walks, and the wider complex, with its tea room and courtyard shops, makes a stay with a dog straightforward. Keep dogs under close control around the pitches, as the camping area is compact.
Does Spital Farm have electric hook-ups?
Yes, the site offers electric hook-ups across its level, well drained grass pitches, plus a full motorhome service point for filling and emptying. Shower and toilet blocks are on site, though the facility block is small for busy weeks, so expect a short wait at peak times.
Is Spital Farm open all year?
Yes, Spital Farm is listed as open all year round. Out of season it is worth phoning ahead on 01944 711377 to confirm availability and to check which of the on site businesses, such as the Spital Inn and the tea room, are open during your dates.
How far is Spital Farm from Scarborough and the beach?
Spital Farm sits at Staxton, about 6 miles south west of Scarborough along the A64, and Filey with its long sandy beach is roughly 6 miles east. Whitby, Bridlington, Pickering and the North York Moors are all within comfortable day trip range of the site.
Can you have a campfire at Spital Farm?
No, campfires are not permitted at Spital Farm. For food and warmth without the smoke, the 16th century Spital Inn beside the campsite serves carvery and restaurant meals, and the on site bakery and tea room handle breakfasts, pies, cakes and traditional afternoon teas.
How much does a night at Spital Farm cost?
Spital Farm does not publish its pitch prices online, so rates are confirmed when you book. Bookings for the caravan and camping site are taken by phone on 01944 711377, and it is wise to call ahead for summer weekends because the site is small.
