About this site

Stithians Lake Country Park is a lakeside campsite and glamping site run by South West Lakes Trust on the shore of a 275 acre reservoir in west Cornwall's old mining country between Redruth and Falmouth. The site sits in open downland at Menherion, 4 miles from Redruth, about 9 miles from Falmouth, and roughly 8 miles by road from Cornwall's north coast at Portreath. There are 28 grass pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, 15 with electric hook up, plus three furnished Lotus bell tents; there are no hardstandings, so caravanners wanting a firm all weather base should look elsewhere. The water is the draw: the onsite activity centre runs hire and tuition for windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding and wing foiling, Stithians Lake is a stocked trout fishery for fly fishing, and a walking circuit of just under 5 miles loops the shore with a cycleway along the northern edge. Families get a pirate themed play area and the Farm to Fork cafe, and dogs camp free, though they cannot sleep in the bell tents. Visitors regularly praise the patient instructors and the peaceful moorland setting, so the site suits campers after activity by day and quiet by night rather than clubhouse entertainment. The 2026 season runs from 3 April to 31 October, with grass pitches from £24 a night and bell tents from £70 through the Trust's online booking.

Good to know

Are dogs allowed at Stithians Lake Country Park?
Yes, dogs are welcome on camping pitches and stay free of charge. They are not allowed inside the glamping bell tents, but there are lakeside walks straight from the site, including a circuit of just under 5 miles around the reservoir with a cycleway along the northern shore.
Can I bring a caravan or motorhome to Stithians Lake?
Yes, the campsite takes caravans and motorhomes as well as tents on its 28 grass pitches, 15 of which have electric hook up. There are no hardstanding pitches, so all outfits pitch on grass, which is worth bearing in mind for heavier vans early and late in the season.
When is Stithians Lake campsite open in 2026?
The campsite is open from 3 April to 31 October 2026 and closes over winter. High season pricing covers 3 to 19 April, 22 to 31 May and 1 July to 31 August, with lower rates through the rest of the season.
How much does camping at Stithians Lake cost?
Grass pitches cost from £24 a night in low season and £30 in high season, rising to £32 and £38 with electric hook up. Extra adults cost £7.50 a night and extra children £3, while babies under 24 months and dogs stay free.
Is there glamping at Stithians Lake Country Park?
Yes, the site has three furnished Lotus bell tents priced at £70 a night for two adults and two children. Each has an undercover outdoor cooking area with a table and seating, and they are named after boats and windsurfing brands, though dogs cannot sleep inside them.
How far is Stithians Lake from the beach?
The nearest sea beaches are about 8 miles by road at Portreath on Cornwall's north coast, with Falmouth's Gyllyngvase Beach around 9 miles to the south east. The campsite itself sits beside a 275 acre freshwater reservoir with its own watersports centre, so the water is much closer.
