About this site

Alongside a working plant nursery on Toogood Lane, Stoney Leach Nurseries Certificated Location is a five van, adults only Caravan and Motorhome Club CL at Wrightington, near Wigan. The site covers about three quarters of an acre of lawned ground with views over the surrounding farmland as far as the Pennines, and an extra area of grass has been planted with trees and shrubs to keep the place feeling open rather than boxed in. There are field paths leading off the site and the owners provide maps and leaflets for them. A farm shop sits about half a mile away, the nearest pub serving food is roughly a mile and a quarter off, and the bus stop is within a mile with services to Wigan, Preston and Chorley. Appley Bridge is the nearest railway station, which puts Southport, Liverpool and Manchester within reach without moving the van. The five pitches are spacious hard standings, each with 16 amp electric hook up, a generous grassed area and a hedge for a bit of privacy, and there is a dog walk from the site. Membership of the Caravan and Motorhome Club is required, and Stoney Leach takes caravans and motorhomes only: no tents, and adults only, so families need a different site near Wigan. It is open all year, arrival is from 1pm, and prices are arranged directly with the owners.

Good to know

Do I need to be a Caravan and Motorhome Club member?
Yes, Stoney Leach Nurseries is a Certificated Location, a five van site reserved exclusively for Caravan and Motorhome Club members. A current membership is required to book or stay. Certificated Locations are owned and run by Club members rather than by the Club itself, so you book directly with the site owners.
Is Stoney Leach adults only?
Yes, Stoney Leach Nurseries is an adults only site, so it does not suit families with children. It takes caravans and motorhomes only, with no tents. Dogs are welcome and there is a dog walk directly from the site. The Club lists it as ideal for adults, dogs and peaceful stays.
Is there electric hook up?
Yes, the five hardstanding pitches each have a 16 amp electric hook up. Every pitch also has a generous grassed area and a hedge. The site sits on about three quarters of an acre of lawned ground, and recycling facilities are available. TV reception is listed as good.
Is Stoney Leach open all year?
Yes, the Caravan and Motorhome Club lists Stoney Leach Nurseries as open all year, with arrival from 1:00pm. As with most five van Certificated Locations, ring the owners before you travel to check availability, particularly outside the main season, since there are only five pitches in total.
What is nearby for food and supplies?
A local farm shop is about half a mile from the site and the nearest pub serving food is roughly a mile and a quarter away. Wigan, Chorley and Ormskirk all have good shops, as do Southport, Preston, Manchester and Liverpool, and the bus stop within a mile runs to Wigan, Preston and Chorley.
Can I get there by public transport?
Yes, up to a point. There is a bus stop within a mile of the site with daily services to Wigan, Preston and Chorley, and the nearest railway station is Appley Bridge, about two miles away. That makes Southport, Liverpool and Manchester reachable for a day out without hitching up the caravan.
