About this site

The Croft Campsite is a small, family run site on the green at Ubbeston, a Suffolk village sitting almost exactly halfway between Halesworth and Framlingham, roughly six miles from each. Maria and Guy Hindley opened it in 2016 and picked up Campsite of the Year in 2024. Ubbeston is inland rather than coastal, so the Suffolk Heritage Coast is about 25 minutes by car, while Laxfield is a mile and a half away with two pubs, a Co-op, a post office and a museum, and there is a walk to it along the River Blyth. Pitches are properly spacious at 11 metres plus, and 25 of them have electric hook-up. One honest caveat: those hook-ups are 6 amp, so leave the fan heater and the household kettle at home. Families and dog owners do well here, with a playground, a recreation field, a barn of table tennis and ride on toys for the wet days, a third of an acre of dog paddock where leads come off, and a Hartley Hare Hunt every Saturday. Firepits are hired out and wood is sold on site. If you would rather not pitch at all, book the Camping Pod or the Canvas Caban, both pre-erected. Croissants turn up every morning and there are barbecues on Fridays, which tells you most of what you need to know about how The Croft is run. The 2026 season opens on 27 March, with grass pitches from £29 a night for two people.

Good to know

Are dogs allowed at The Croft Campsite?
Yes, dogs are welcome and cost £4.40 per stay, with a limit of two per pitch. They need to stay on a lead around the campsite, but there is a third of an acre dog paddock where they can run off the lead. The owners are clear that the lead rule applies to dogs, not to children.
Can I have a campfire at The Croft?
Yes, the site hires out firepits and sells wood on site at a reasonable price, so you do not need to bring your own. Open fires straight onto the grass are not the arrangement here: the firepit keeps the pitch in good order for whoever follows you onto it.
How much is a pitch at The Croft Campsite?
Grass pitches start from £29 a night for a non-electric pitch and £36 with electric, both including two people. Extra adults are £6.60, children aged two to 17 are £3.30 and under twos are free. Awnings, gazebos and pup tents are free. Book direct and the code BOOKDIRECT10 takes off 10 per cent.
Does The Croft have electric hook-up?
Yes, 25 pitches have electric hook-up, and there are also two electric car chargers on site. Be aware the hook-ups are 6 amp, so you are limited to a 1kw heater and camping kettles rather than household ones. There is a kettle in reception if you get caught out.
When does The Croft Campsite open in 2026?
The Croft reopens on 27 March 2026 and runs through the season to late September, so it is not a year-round site. Bank holidays carry a three night minimum stay, and on busy weekends the site raises the minimum length of stay to protect space for longer bookings.
Does The Croft take caravans and motorhomes as well as tents?
Yes, the site welcomes tents, touring caravans, motorhomes and campervans, and pitches are generous at 11 metres plus. Children, teenagers and dogs are all welcome too. Groups of four or more pitches cannot be booked through the online system and need to be arranged by phone or email.
