About this site

The Ponderosa Camping & Caravan Site is a small family-run touring site at Tolgus Mount on the edge of Redruth in west Cornwall, open all year and aimed at campers who want a quiet, low-key base rather than a big holiday park. The site sits about a mile and a half from Redruth town centre and roughly 3 miles from the sandy beach at Portreath, with Cornwall Gold and the Tolgus Mill tin works about a mile up the road and East Pool Mine and Carn Brea a short drive away. There are 7 grass pitches of around 11m by 9m (slightly sloping) plus 1 hardstanding by the entrance, taking caravans, motorhomes, campervans and tents, with larger tents by prior arrangement. It suits couples and small families after peace and a personal welcome. Anyone wanting a bar, entertainment or big amenity blocks should look elsewhere, as there is one shower and one toilet. What stands out is the service: the owners meet arrivals who ring ahead, hand out tailored advice on walks and beaches, and keep a utility room with a fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer, plus free WiFi across the site. Dogs stay free on leads, children are welcome, and there is a small supervised play area. The Ponderosa is open year round bar essential maintenance, with pitches from £17 a night at 2025 rates and bookings taken through the online booking system.

Good to know

Are dogs allowed at The Ponderosa?
Yes, dogs are welcome at The Ponderosa and they stay free of charge. They must be kept on a lead around the site, and with coastal paths within walking distance there are good walks on the doorstep without needing to drive.
Is The Ponderosa open all year?
Yes, the site is open all year round, closing only for essential maintenance or during spells of severe weather. Winter tourers get the same setup as summer guests, including the hot shower, the utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer, and one hardstanding pitch for wet weather arrivals.
How much does a pitch cost at The Ponderosa?
Pitches cost from £17 a night for a caravan, motorhome or tent without services, or from £21 a night with services, based on the 2025 price list for two adults. Extra adults are £6 a night, children aged 3 to 15 are £3, and awnings are £2, with current prices shown in the online booking system.
Do pitches at The Ponderosa have electric hook-up?
Yes, serviced pitches with electric hook-up are available and cost £21 a night on 2025 rates. The hook-up points are centrally placed on the site, so you need a lead of at least 25 metres, and the owners hire out leads if yours does not reach.
How far is The Ponderosa from the beach?
The nearest beach is at Portreath, about 3 miles away by road. Redruth town centre is about a mile and a half from the site for shops and supermarkets, and the operator notes that local attractions can be reached on foot, by bike or by public transport.
