Why campers love it here
About this site
Thorns Farm Certificated Site is a small certificated site on a working leisure farm near Barrowby, a couple of miles west of Grantham in Lincolnshire, best known for its two well-stocked carp ponds. The site sits in quiet farmland just off the main roads, with Grantham close by for shops and the railway station and Newark-on-Trent around twelve miles to the north. As a Certificated Site under the Camping and Caravanning Club scheme, it takes a maximum of five caravans or motorhomes plus a few tents, so it stays peaceful and uncrowded. Pitches have electric hook-up and dogs are welcome, but you should know there are no toilet or shower facilities on the campsite itself, so it suits self-contained tourers and campervans best. The fishing is the real pull here: the two carp ponds are open to camping and B&B guests at around £5 a day, with no day tickets sold to the public. The same farm runs seven self-catering barn apartments and secure indoor caravan storage, giving the place a genuine working-yard feel. Thorns Farm is open all year, and because pitch numbers are limited it is best to call the owners to check availability and book directly.
