Why campers love it here
About this site
Little Westdown Farm Camping is an off-grid campsite spread across eight acres of wildflower meadow at East Essworthy near Hatherleigh in rural West Devon. Formerly Westdown Farm Wild Camping, it relocated a mile down the road to this new site, keeping the same relaxed, back-to-nature feel. There are 20 spacious camping pitches set in six acres of meadow, plus three wooden camping pods that sleep two and come with lighting, phone charging and memory-foam mattresses; you bring your own bedding. Tents, campervans and motorhomes are welcome, there is no electric hook-up, and the emphasis is on dark skies, stargazing and wildlife including owls, deer and abundant birds. Facilities are simple but well thought out: five hot eco showers, three composting toilets, a water point, picnic tables and vehicle parking, with fire-pit hire and firewood available on site. Dogs are welcome. Hatherleigh, with its pubs, cafes and shops, is a 40-minute walk along bridleways and country lanes, and the edge of Dartmoor is close for walking. Camping costs from £10 per person a night with a two-night minimum, and Little Westdown Farm suits couples and campers after peace and quiet rather than on-site entertainment. Book by contacting the site directly.
