YHA Okehampton

YHA Okehampton is a youth hostel with a camping field on the northern edge of Dartmoor, just outside the town of Okehampton in Devon. The hostel occupies a converted Victorian railway goods shed beside the old station, and the campsite sits on a flat, enclosed field in its grounds, with direct access onto Dartmoor and the traffic-free Granite Way cycle path. Campers pitch tents (there are no electric hook-ups) and use the hostel facilities, including showers, a self-catering kitchen, a licensed restaurant serving local food, a cafe, a shop, a games room and a drying room. The site is built around activity: its adventure centre runs archery, climbing, high ropes, kayaking, canoeing, gorge scrambling and abseiling, which makes it a strong choice for families, groups and school trips wanting an action-packed Dartmoor base. It is not the place for anyone after a quiet, adults-only field or full electric touring pitches, and it takes tents and hostel beds rather than caravans. Dogs are welcome on the campsite, with up to two per pitch, though not in the shared hostel rooms. The hostel has up to 126 beds, inclusive family adventure breaks start from around £99 for two nights, and camping and rooms are booked through YHA.
