Blacklands Farm

Blacklands Farm is a working farm campsite in oak-enclosed meadows outside Henfield in West Sussex, a few miles from Brighton and close to the South Downs National Park. Caravans and motorhomes pitch up on hardstanding all year round, while tent camping runs from Easter until late September. Henfield has no station of its own, but Hassocks is 5.4 miles away with trains to London and Brighton, and the Brighton to Horsham bus route serves the village. Pitches split between the playground field, with electric hook-up and a large ring-fenced play area for children, and quieter paddocks further out, some with hardstanding for winter touring. It suits families wanting a proper back-to-basics stay with fishing on site (day tickets are bought at reception after arrival), though it is not the place for late nights: quiet hours start at 11pm and there is a strict no-under-21 policy for unaccompanied groups. Ground fires are banned, but a small fire pit can be hired in the camping season for toasting marshmallows once the shop is open. The onsite shop selling home-produced bacon, sausages and eggs adds a genuine working-farm feel that goes beyond the usual facilities list. Camping at Blacklands Farm starts from £20 a night, with off-peak hardstanding pitches from £32 a night, booked through the farm's own website.
