Charity Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a working farm site at Smithy Brow, Wrightington, near Wigan, where the camping field shares 115 acres with a coarse fishery and a cross country horse course. Open fields, country lanes and woodland surround the park, and yet junction 27 of the M6 is less than four miles away, while the village of Eccleston, three miles off, covers a supermarket, chemist, newsagent and post office. Trains run to Manchester from Appley Bridge, three miles away, and to Liverpool from Croston, four miles away. Charity Farm takes touring caravans, motorhomes, trailer tents and tents on a mix of hardstanding and grass pitches, with electric hook up, wifi, laundry, modern showers with shaver points and a chemical disposal point. Well behaved dogs are welcome on a lead at £1 a night, and there is a dog exercise area plus private farm walks. What lifts this one past the usual facilities list is the rest of the farm: day ticket and match fishing across four landscaped ponds, farm rides and a cross country course if you bring your own horse, and fire pits with logs to hire. Groups of three pitches or more must book by phone and pay a security bond. Small tent pitches start at £15 a night for one person in low season, and electric pitches are £32.
