About this site

Fieldhead Camp Site is a quiet, tent only campsite in the centre of Edale, right at the foot of Kinder Scout and the southern start of the Pennine Way. It sits alongside the Peak District National Park's Moorland Centre, about 400 metres from Edale railway station, so you can arrive by train and walk straight onto the fells. The grass pitches have no electric hook up and there is no parking beside them: you leave the car in a separate area and wheelbarrow your kit in, which keeps the fields peaceful. That makes Fieldhead brilliant for walkers, climbers and cyclists, and there are smaller hiker pitches for backpackers doing single nights. It does not suit caravans or motorhomes, and as tenants of the National Park the site allows no campfires or BBQs. Dogs are welcome. Facilities are properly kept, with heated shower and toilet blocks, accessible facilities, a laundry, drinking water and an indoor washing up area, and new for 2026 there are glamping pods with heating and a kitchenette. Fieldhead opens for the main season from March to early November, with tent pitches from £10 per adult a night and booking done online.

Good to know

Are dogs allowed at Fieldhead Camp Site?
Yes, dogs are welcome at Fieldhead and the new glamping pods are dog friendly too. You are surrounded by the open fells around Edale, so there is superb walking straight from the site. Keep dogs under control around the National Park moorland and any livestock.
Can I have a campfire or BBQ?
No, campfires, fire pits and BBQs are not allowed. As tenants of the Peak District National Park the site cannot permit any burning of solid fuel, so leave disposable BBQs at home and plan to use the local pubs and cafes in Edale for hot food.
Is there electric hook up?
No, none of the pitches have electric hook up. They are basic grass pitches, and there is no parking next to them, so you use the separate car park and the site's wheelbarrows to move your gear across. It keeps the camping fields quiet and traffic free.
Can I bring a caravan or motorhome?
No, Fieldhead is a tent only site and cannot take caravans or motorhomes. There are standard tent pitches, smaller hiker and cyclist pitches for single nights, and new glamping pods from 2026 if you want a bit more comfort without a tent.
How do I get there by train?
Fieldhead is in the centre of Edale, roughly 400 metres from Edale railway station and the Moorland Centre. Trains make it one of the easiest Peak District sites to reach without a car, and footpaths lead straight onto Kinder Scout and the Pennine Way.
When is Fieldhead open and what does it cost?
Fieldhead opens for the main camping season, roughly mid March to the start of November. Tent prices start from around £10 per adult a night in low season, with under fives cheaper and a small charge for vehicles. Booking is done online through the site.
