About this site

Landsdowne Camping Certificated Site is a Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site on Shore Road at Hesketh Bank, three miles from the end of Southport's Marine Drive, and its calling card is a 2.5 acre fishing lake. The camping area itself is 1.5 acres of level grass with easy access, mains electricity and hard standings if you want them, and there is a large rally field with room for up to 50 units. Tents, caravans and motor caravans are all taken. The lake draws in a variety of wildlife, and campers can fish it for an extra charge or put a small boat or canoe on it as long as life jackets are worn. Birdwatchers are the obvious fit: the RSPB reserves at Marshside and Hesketh Out Marsh on the Ribble Estuary are both close, and paths onto the out marsh start on the opposite side of Shore Road. This is a Club site, number 102/172, so membership is required, and it is a working farm, which means keeping children away from the machinery and the deep ponds. A cabin by the lake can be used for meetings and events, home grown produce is sold depending on the season, and the hourly number 2 bus to Southport and Preston stops near Landsdowne, so you can leave the car on the pitch. Ring 01772 814075 to book.

Good to know

Do I need to be a member to stay?
Yes, Landsdowne is a Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site, number 102/172, so Club membership is required. The site takes tents, caravans and motor caravans, and there is a large rally field with room for up to 50 units if you are booking as a group or a rally.
Can I fish on the lake?
Yes, the 2.5 acre lake is open to campers for fishing at an extra charge. You can also put a small boat or canoe on it as long as life jackets are worn. The lake draws a good variety of wildlife, and a small cabin beside it can be used for meetings and events.
Is there electric hook up?
Yes, the site has mains electricity, and hard standings are available if you need them. The camping area itself is 1.5 acres of level grass with easy access. Home grown produce is sold on site depending on the season, and there is a chemical toilet disposal point for your unit.
How far is Southport?
The site is three miles along Shore Road from the end of Southport's Marine Drive, at Hesketh Bank. The number 2 bus runs hourly to Southport in one direction and Preston in the other, stopping near the site. Note that the owners warn sat navs struggle in this area, so use their written directions.
Is it good for birdwatching?
Yes, this is one of the better spots for it. The RSPB reserves at Marshside and Hesketh Out Marsh on the Ribble Estuary are both close, and paths onto the out marsh start on the opposite side of Shore Road from the site. Walkers and cyclists are equally well served here.
Is it suitable for families?
Yes, families are welcome, but this is a working farm and the owners are direct about it: keep children away from farm machinery, vehicles, stacked bales and farm buildings, and be aware of a deep duck pond and a deep fish pond down the field. There is a 5mph limit on site.
