About this site

Tents and tourers, five vans at a time: Longfold Farm Certificated Site is a Certificated Site on a working arable farm at Bretherton, sitting quietly between Preston and Southport in west Lancashire. Andrew and Tammy run it on North Road, and though the site takes only five vans there are twelve electric hook ups laid across the field, so you get a genuine choice of spot rather than whatever is left. Croston is two miles away with an array of pubs and restaurants and a heritage trail through the village, and Croston station puts you on the Preston to Ormskirk line if you fancy Ormskirk market on a Thursday or Saturday. Preston city centre is 20 minutes by car and Southport about 30, with Martin Mere wildfowl centre and the motor museum at Leyland both within easy reach, and a cross section of footpaths scattered through the countryside around Bretherton. There is a heated toilet and shower block. Be clear about what this is: a quiet working farm, not a holiday park, so there is no shop, no play area and nothing laid on to entertain children beyond the fields themselves. Longfold Farm is open twelve months of the year, and rather than phoning, the owners ask you to text Andrew with your dates and he will confirm.

Good to know

Is Longfold Farm open all year?
Yes, the site is open twelve months of the year. Andrew and Tammy run it as a Certificated Site for tents and tourers on their working arable farm at Bretherton, so winter availability will depend on what is happening on the farm. Text ahead rather than turning up unannounced.
How do I book a pitch?
The owners ask you to text Andrew on 07808 760174 with your dates and how many nights you need, and he will text back to confirm if the pitch is free. There is no online booking system and no published price list, so ask about the rate when you text.
How many pitches are there?
It is a five van Certificated Site, so no more than five caravans or motorhomes are on at any one time. Despite that limit, there are twelve electric hook up points laid across the field, which means you have a real choice of where to put your tent or tourer.
What is there to do nearby?
Croston village is two miles away with pubs, restaurants and a heritage trail, and Croston station sits on the Preston to Ormskirk line. Martin Mere wildfowl centre and the motor museum at Leyland are both close. Footpaths cross the countryside around Bretherton for country walks and evening strolls.
How far is Southport and Preston?
Southport is about a 30 minute drive from Longfold Farm and Preston city centre is around 20 minutes. Ormskirk, an old market town with market days on Thursdays and Saturdays, is reachable by train from Croston station two miles away. Bretherton itself sits quietly between all three.
What facilities are on site?
There is a heated toilet and shower facility, installed for the 2013 season, and twelve electric hook up points. This is a working arable farm rather than a holiday park, so there is no shop, no bar and no play area. Croston, two miles off, covers takeaways, bakeries, cafes and pubs.
