About this site

The Hawthorne Nightstop is a motorhome and campervan stopover in the grounds of the old Hawthorne public house on Roundthorn Road, Oldham, run by motorhome owners for people breaking a journey rather than settling in for a fortnight. It sits about a kilometre from Oldham, in a quiet spot close to a local nature reserve, with the Dog and Partridge, a 19th century pub, within walking distance and open countryside around it. Manchester city centre is a straightforward drive away, which makes The Hawthorne useful as a staging post at either end of a trip north. Every pitch is hard standing, and there are showers, toilets, electricity, water and laundry services on site, with the owners making a point of the security of the setup. This is a fully licensed CL holder authorised for night stops, and that is exactly what it is best at: a clean, safe, well equipped place to park up overnight on the way to somewhere else. It is not a holiday park. There are no tents, no entertainment programme and no play area, so families after a week by the sea should keep looking. The trade off is that you are minutes from Oldham for supplies and a short walk from a decent pint. Pitches start from £20 a night, the site is open all year with late arrivals welcome, and you can call ahead on 0161 213 9860.

Good to know

How much is a pitch per night?
Pitches start from £20 a night, as stated on the site's own website. The Hawthorne is a night stop rather than a holiday park, so it is priced and set up for single overnight stays. Ring 0161 213 9860 or 07948 204901 to check availability and confirm the current rate before you set off.
Can I pitch a tent at The Hawthorne?
No, the Hawthorne is set up for camper vans and motor homes only, and describes itself as a fully equipped stop over for those. All the pitches are hard standing, which suits vans rather than canvas. Campers looking for a tent pitch will need to find a different site in the Oldham area.
Is The Hawthorne open all year?
Yes, the site is open all year, and late arrivals are welcome, which is much of the point of a night stop. It is a fully licensed CL holder authorised for night stops. Call ahead on 0161 213 9860 or 07948 204901, particularly if you expect to arrive late in the evening.
Is there electric hook up?
Yes, all the pitches are hard standing with electricity, and the site also has showers, toilets, water and laundry services. The owners are motorhome owners themselves and say they have set the place up around what is actually needed for a good overnight stay, including the security of the site.
Is there a pub or shop nearby?
Yes, the Dog and Partridge, a 19th century pub, is within walking distance of the site. Oldham is about a kilometre away for shops and supplies, and Manchester city centre is a straightforward drive. The site itself sits in a quiet location close to a local nature reserve with countryside on the doorstep.
Is it suitable for a longer holiday?
No, the Hawthorne is designed as a night stop rather than a holiday base. It is authorised for night stops, and the facilities are geared to a secure, comfortable overnight halt: hard standings, hook up, showers and laundry. There is no entertainment, no play area and no tent camping, so plan it as a staging post.
