Why campers love it here
About this site
The Hayfield Fishing and Shooting Lodge is the bar and restaurant at Hayfield Lakes, a coarse fishing complex with touring pitches at Auckley near Doncaster in South Yorkshire. Camping here is built around three stocked lakes and open countryside beside the River Torne, on the edge of the former Doncaster Sheffield Airport. There is room for up to 80 touring units, and tents, caravans and motorhomes are all welcome, but one detail matters above all, there is no toilet or shower block, so you must arrive fully self-contained. Electric hook-up points exist but are limited and first-come, first-served, which again points to campers with their own facilities rather than tent families needing amenities. What sets the place apart is the on-site lodge, a licensed bar and restaurant with a Sunday carvery, themed events and live entertainment, so you can fish all day and eat in of an evening without leaving. The fishing itself is serious, with over 160 pegs and regular matches, while walkers and birdwatchers use the quiet lanes and river path alongside. Dogs are welcome on a lead. Hayfield Lakes is open all year near Doncaster, and touring rates are quoted on enquiry with the site.
