Why campers love it here
About this site
Thurlmoor Farm is a back-to-basics Camping and Caravanning Club certificated site high on the moor edge at Dunford Bridge, between Penistone and Holmfirth in South Yorkshire. The pitch is a south-facing farm field with long, open Pennine views and the Peak District boundary right on the doorstep. It takes up to five caravans or motorhomes and around ten tents at a time, with electric hook-ups on the grass, so it stays small and quiet. The important thing to know is that there is no toilet or shower block, only a chemical disposal point and fresh water, so you need to be fully self-contained or happy with your own facilities. That honesty is the point, because what you get instead is space, silence and a pitch that opens straight onto the Trans Pennine Trail, which follows the old Woodhead railway through Dunford Bridge. Winscar Reservoir and its sailing club are close by, and Penistone is about five miles away for shops and supplies. Dogs and children are both welcome. Thurlmoor Farm opens from the end of March to the end of October, so it works best as a walking and cycling base in the warmer months.
