Alston Farm

Alston Farm Campsite is a family-run, working-farm site tucked into a quiet valley about five minutes from Salcombe in the South Hams of South Devon. The camping fields spread across grass and hardstanding pitches for tents, touring caravans, campervans and motorhomes, with optional 6 amp electric hook-up, and a top field called Two Folds gives views over Blanksmill Creek on the Salcombe Estuary. Two static caravans are available to hire among privately owned lodges, but the heart of Alston Farm is old-fashioned camping. It suits families and couples after a laid-back base rather than a lively park with bars and pools; there is a good play area with a zip line, a wooded dog walk and a stream the dogs love. Dogs are welcome on a lead, and campers can bring their own fire pit. Salcombe, Bantham, Hope Cove, Kingsbridge and the South West Coast Path are all a short drive away, so beach days and coast walks are easy. Pitches start at £15 a night for a single-occupancy small tent, or £22 for a small tent based on two adults in low season. Open from 15 March to 1 November, this is a genuinely relaxed spot for exploring this stretch of South Devon.
