Chantry Farm

Chantry Farm is a small, back-to-basics campsite on Wolstonbury Hill in the South Downs National Park, between Hurstpierpoint and Pyecombe in West Sussex. The farm cares for 54 acres of chalk grassland here, including three Scheduled Bronze Age monuments, a platform barrow, a round barrow and a stretch of Cross Ridge Dyke, and campers get a guided walking map with private access to all three. Pitches are mown as circles into the summer meadow grass, capped at 30 guests in total, each with its own fire pit and nearby car parking. There are no showers, but heated washing bays with hot water and fresh flannels take their place, alongside two composting toilets, one with disabled access. Chantry Farm suits campers who want a genuinely quiet, off-grid, nature-focused stay and do not mind a bucket wash instead of a shower. It will not suit anyone wanting hook-up electric, fixed wifi, or a big group without a matching quiet ethos, since whole-site bookings are only taken where the group fits the space. Wolstonbury Hill's summit is well known locally for panoramic views that reach the sea on a clear day. Camping runs from spring through summer and costs from £20 a person a night, plus small car and dog fees.
