About this site

Giants Head Caravan Park is a traditional 50 pitch touring and camping site set on a terraced hillside above Cerne Abbas in central Dorset. The grassy pitches take tents, touring caravans and motorhomes across roughly three and a half acres, with electric hook-up available and long views over the surrounding countryside. Cerne Abbas village, with its shop, tea room and three pubs, sits just over a mile away, and the county town of Dorchester is 8 miles south. Minterne House and Gardens is 4 miles off, while the Jurassic Coast at Weymouth is around 13 miles away, so this is a countryside base rather than a seaside one. The site suits walkers and families who want quiet nights, space between pitches and a dog-friendly field near the Wessex Ridgeway. It will not suit anyone after glamping, a bar or an on-site shop, since Giants Head keeps things simple. A separate dog area, laundry and washing-up facilities, and easy access to South West Coast Path routes and local Treasure Trails round out the stay. The park sits within the Dorset National Landscape (formerly an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). It usually opens from around Easter to early November, with non-electric pitches from £20 a night and electric pitches from £25 a night.

Good to know

Are dogs allowed at Giants Head Caravan Park?
Yes, dogs are welcome and there is a separate area set aside for campers with dogs, next to the Wessex Ridgeway for walks. A charge of £3 per dog per night applies, and owners are asked to keep dogs under control around the other grassy pitches.
Does the site have electric hook-up pitches?
Yes, electric pitches are available among the 50 grassy pitches, and battery charging can be arranged on request. Electric pitches start from £25 a night for two people, while non-electric pitches start from £20 a night. Awnings and extra vehicles carry a small additional charge.
When is Giants Head open?
The park runs a seasonal calendar, opening from around Easter to early November rather than all year. Low, high and peak season rates apply across that period, with the school summer holidays the busiest time. Contact the park to confirm exact dates before you travel.
Is there glamping or a shop on site?
No, there is no glamping and no shop at Giants Head. Pitches are for tents, touring caravans and motorhomes only. Cerne Abbas village is just over a mile away with a well-stocked shop, a tea room and pubs, and Dorchester is 8 miles for larger supermarkets.
How close is the site to Cerne Abbas and the coast?
Cerne Abbas and its famous hillside giant are about a mile and a quarter away, and Dorchester is 8 miles south. The site sits inland in central Dorset, so the Jurassic Coast at Weymouth is roughly 13 miles by road rather than within walking distance.
