Why campers love it here
About this site
Hideaway Camping is a secluded 24-acre campsite and glamping site on the edge of Dartmoor near Okehampton in Devon. Alongside grass tent pitches, each with the option of a good old-fashioned campfire, there is an eclectic run of glamping: a gypsy caravan, a shepherd's hut, an Airstream, camping pods and a converted double-decker bus. Hideaway Camping keeps things back to nature, with babbling streams, woodland, hammocks, a fairy glade and pigs to feed, so it leans towards families and couples wanting to switch off rather than campers chasing electric hook-ups and slick amenities. There are no electric hook-ups on the pitches, and dogs are not allowed because the site is surrounded by livestock, which is worth knowing before you book. Tents, campervans, motorhomes and caravans can all be accommodated, though without hook-ups. The charming market towns of Okehampton and Tavistock are close by, and the seaside at Bude is within easy reach, along with plenty of Dartmoor walking straight from the gate. Tent pitches cost from £15 a night per adult in the main season, with glamping from £45 a night for the Little Owl Pod. For a magical, unplugged stay near Okehampton, Hideaway Camping is a genuinely different corner of Devon.
