About this site

A golf course on the doorstep is the unusual part of Hugh Dampney, the Caravan and Motorhome Club's Certificated Location on the working farm at Parley Court Farm, Hurn, a little north of Christchurch. The CL amounts to half an acre of grass at BH23 6BB, 7 miles out from Christchurch town centre and the beaches and the same distance from Poole harbour, which makes it a practical halt on either side of a ferry crossing. A village and a pub are each within a mile, sand starts 4.5 miles away, and coarse fishing, game fishing and watersports all fall inside 5 miles. Pitches are grass with 15 amp electric hook up and must be booked in advance. Families and dogs are catered for. Tents are not, and neither is anyone hoping for a shower block, since the club's facilities list amounts to a golf course, a working farm and good TV reception, so self sufficiency is the price of entry. Two things lift Hugh Dampney past that bare checklist: the cafe bar at the golf centre, open to all comers, and fishing right next to the site. Guest opinion divides, with praise for the location and the golf access set against repeated complaints about upkeep. Membership of the club is required, and prices open at £22 a night for a pitch and all occupants, plus a £20 deposit.

Good to know

Do you have to be a club member to stay at Hugh Dampney?
Yes, this is a Caravan and Motorhome Club Certificated Location, so only club members can book or stay. Pre-booking is required rather than optional, so ring ahead on the number listed rather than turning up. The owners take cash, cheque, credit and debit cards and bank transfer.
Are dogs allowed at Hugh Dampney?
Yes, the Caravan and Motorhome Club lists the site as ideal for dogs. It is a half acre grass CL on a working farm at Hurn, so keep dogs under close control around livestock and farm traffic. A pub and a village are both within a mile of the site.
Are there toilets and showers on site?
No, the club's facilities list records a golf course, a working farm and good TV reception, with no toilet or shower block. You need a fully self contained caravan or motorhome. There is no electric vehicle charging either, though the club notes a charger at a Lidl roughly 1.6 miles away.
Is there electric hook up at Hugh Dampney?
Yes, electric hook up is available on the grass pitches at 15 amps, which is lower than the 16 amps many sites offer, so be careful running a kettle and a heater together. Pitches are grass only, so bring levelling gear in case the ground near Christchurch is soft.
How much does it cost a night?
Prices start from £22 a night for a pitch and all occupants, with a £20 deposit taken at booking. The Caravan and Motorhome Club lists that rate as running from November 2024, so confirm the current figure with the owners. Payment can be cash, cheque, card or bank transfer.
How far is the site from the beach and Christchurch?
The nearest sandy beach is 4.5 miles away and the town centre and beaches are about 7 miles from the site. Poole port is 7 miles off, which suits a night either side of a ferry. Golf and watersports are both within 5 miles of Hurn.
