About this site

Kings Down Tail Caravan & Camping Park is a level, well-kept touring and camping park at Salcombe Regis, just outside Sidmouth in East Devon, on ground that was once a royal hunting ground. There are 120 pitches on hardstanding and grass, all of them level, taking caravans, motorhomes, trailer tents and tents, and the park also has glamping pods for anyone who wants to turn up without kit. Seasonal pitches and caravan storage are available too. Vicki and David Paget run the site with their family and live on site, which keeps things personal and easy to sort if you need a hand. The location is the strength, close to the Jurassic Coast and the Regency seaside town of Sidmouth, with unspoiled coast and countryside on the doorstep for walking. Dogs are welcome for a small nightly charge, and families are catered for with reduced rates for children. Non-electric pitches start from £23 a night for two adults and a car, with electric pitches from £30, based on 2026 prices. Kings Down Tail opens from 15 March to 15 November, so it suits spring-to-autumn trips. Book through the Kings Down Tail website or call the park on 01297 680313.

Good to know

Are dogs allowed at Kings Down Tail?
Yes, dogs are welcome at Kings Down Tail for a small charge of £2.50 per dog per night. The park sits in unspoiled East Devon countryside near Sidmouth, with coast and countryside walks close by, so there is plenty of space to exercise dogs during your stay.
Does Kings Down Tail have glamping pods?
Yes, as well as touring and camping pitches, Kings Down Tail has family glamping pods for anyone who wants to stay without bringing their own tent or caravan. The park has 120 level pitches in total on hardstanding and grass, plus seasonal pitches and caravan storage.
How much are pitches at Kings Down Tail?
Based on 2026 prices, non-electric pitches start from £23 a night and electric pitches from £30, each including two adults and one car, with higher rates over bank holidays and peak summer. Extras such as awnings, extra people and dogs are charged separately per night.
What can Kings Down Tail pitches take?
The 120 level pitches suit touring caravans, motorhomes, trailer tents and tents, on either hardstanding or grass, and electric and non-electric options are available. Because every pitch is level, it is a practical choice for larger units and for anyone who dislikes pitching on a slope.
When is Kings Down Tail open?
Kings Down Tail opens from 15 March to 15 November, covering spring through to late autumn. It sits near Sidmouth and the Jurassic Coast in East Devon, so it suits coast and countryside trips in the warmer months rather than winter stays. Booking ahead is wise for summer.
