About this site

Mountain Cottage Yurts is a small glamping site on a family farm near Wimborne in Dorset, with three furnished yurts and a self-contained retreat set across 50 acres of pasture beside woodland. Mountain Cottage Yurts keeps numbers low, with a maximum of 14 guests at any time, so it stays quiet and unhurried. Each yurt sits on its own decking with a table, chairs, a BBQ and a fire pit for toasting marshmallows, and a woodburning stove keeps things warm on cooler nights. Solar lighting comes on at dusk, beds arrive made up with a bottom sheet, and the shared outdoor kitchen has gas stoves, a fridge and all the pots and pans you need. A communal woodburning pizza oven, a children's play area with a mud kitchen and sandpit, a hot shower cabin and a composting loo complete the facilities. The setting suits couples after a romantic break and families with young children, though dogs are not allowed and the owners do not take hen, stag or party bookings. The Jurassic Coast and its Dorset beaches are a 30 to 40 minute drive away, with Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove and Monkey World within reach. Breaks run as two, three, four or seven night stays, and rates are quoted through the site's online booking system.

Good to know

Are dogs allowed at Mountain Cottage Yurts?
No, dogs are not allowed at Mountain Cottage Yurts. The owners keep the yurts, their rugs and the shared spaces clean for every guest, so pets cannot be brought along. Plan for a dog-free break and sort care for your dog at home before booking a stay.
Do the yurts have electricity and heating?
No, there is no mains electric hook-up in the yurts. Lighting is solar and comes on at dusk, so bring a torch for reading. Each yurt has a woodburning stove with a complimentary basket of logs and kindling, and more firewood is available to buy on site.
Can you have a campfire?
Yes, every yurt comes with its own fire pit on the decking, so you can sit out around a fire in the evening. The owners provide kindling and logs to get you started. They ask guests not to light the fire pit or the indoor stove after drinking alcohol, for safety.
Is it suitable for families and couples?
Yes, Mountain Cottage Yurts works well for both families and couples. Younger children have a play area with a mud kitchen and sandpit, and baby changing facilities are provided. Larger yurts sleep four with futon beds. The owners do not accept hen, stag or party groups, keeping the site calm.
How much do the yurts cost and how do you book?
Rates are quoted through the site's own online booking system rather than listed as a flat nightly figure. Stays run as two or three night weekend breaks, four night midweek breaks or full weeks, with set check-in days. Book online through the Mountain Cottage Yurts website to see live prices and availability.
Are the kitchen and facilities shared?
Yes, the outdoor kitchen, pizza oven and play area are shared between the yurts and the retreat. The kitchen has gas stoves, a fridge, a sink and cooking equipment, the shower cabin has hot water and baby changing, and there is a composting loo. Booking all four units together gives exclusive use.
