About this site

Oak Cottage is a five van Certificated Location for caravans and motorhomes on Holly Lane at Walkford, on the Dorset edge of Christchurch. The site covers a quarter of an acre of grass pitches with 13 amp electric hook-up and is open all year, which makes it useful for winter touring when most of this coast has shut up shop. The sea is the draw. The nearest sand is a mile away and the Caravan and Motorhome Club describes a dog walk to the beach of 1 mile through woodland tracks, with Highcliffe about a mile off and Barton on Sea under 2 miles. Christchurch town is roughly 4 miles, New Milton station is a little over a mile, and buses to Bournemouth and Lymington stop within a mile. Oak Cottage suits couples and dog owners who want a quiet base near the water: the Club lists it as ideal for adults, dogs and peaceful stays, and there is a dog walk from the site. Tents are not accepted and there is no glamping, so this is caravans and motorhomes only, five at a time. It is a members only Certificated Location, so you need Caravan and Motorhome Club membership to book, and the full directions and pitch prices appear only once you log in to the Club listing.

Good to know

Is Oak Cottage open all year?
Yes, the Caravan and Motorhome Club lists Oak Cottage as open all year, with earliest arrival at midday and latest arrival at 10pm. That makes it a handy off season base near Christchurch, though the five pitches are grass, so a wet winter week can leave the ground soft underfoot.
Do you need to be a Club member to stay at Oak Cottage?
Yes, Oak Cottage is a Certificated Location, which means it is open only to Caravan and Motorhome Club members and non members cannot book. The site takes a maximum of five caravans or motorhomes, and the full directions and pitch prices show on the Club listing once you log in.
Are dogs allowed at Oak Cottage?
Yes, dogs are welcome at Oak Cottage and the Caravan and Motorhome Club lists a dog walk from the site. The Club also describes a dog walk to the beach of 1 mile through woodland tracks, so it is a sound spot for a dog that likes a proper leg stretch before breakfast.
Can you take a tent to Oak Cottage?
No, Oak Cottage takes caravans and motorhomes only, with five touring pitches on grass. There is no tent camping and no glamping listed. If you want to camp under canvas near Christchurch, Walkford or Highcliffe you will need to find a different site in the area entirely.
Is there electric hook-up at Oak Cottage?
Yes, electric hook-up is available at Oak Cottage and the Caravan and Motorhome Club lists the amperage as 13. That is lower than the 16 amps on many larger Club campsites, so go steady running a heater and a kettle together. The whole site is a quarter of an acre of grass.
How far is Oak Cottage from the beach and Christchurch?
The nearest sand is 1 mile from Oak Cottage, reachable on foot through woodland tracks. Highcliffe sits about a mile away and Barton on Sea just under 2 miles. Christchurch town is roughly 4 miles, New Milton station is a little over a mile, and Bournemouth is around 9 miles.
