Why campers love it here
About this site
Children are not accepted at Okeford Fitzpaine Highbench C S, which settles the question for families and leaves everyone else a quiet bolthole. Its 1.5 acres of level, well sheltered grass sit at Okeford Fitzpaine, some 6 miles north west of Blandford Forum in north Dorset, and the Camping and Caravanning Club classes the ground as a Hideaway with fishing on site. Being a Certificated Site, it holds five caravans or motorhomes at most alongside tents, and Club membership is a precondition of booking, so turning up on spec is not an option. Grass is the only pitch surface and there is no electric hook up. Facilities have been kept deliberately short: one flushing toilet, and no showers at all. Couples and solo campers after birdsong instead of a clubhouse are the intended audience. Dogs may come, and rooftop tents, trailer tents and campervans are all allowed. The village keeps a shop and a pub, public transport runs within a mile, and the chalk ridge at Okeford Hill opens onto the wider Dorset countryside close by. Highbench works to a season the Club lists as mid April to the end of September, with member prices from £12 a night per unit.
