Why campers love it here
About this site
Pilgrims Rest is a small Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site at Wembury, near Plymouth in South Devon, taking up to five caravans or motorhomes plus tents. The site lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to the River Yealm estuary, with electric hook-ups available and dogs welcome. Being a five-pitch certificated site, this is a compact, low-key spot rather than a facility-packed park, which suits self-sufficient tourers and tent campers who want peace, coastal walks and space, and less so anyone after shops, pools or a kids' club on site. Wembury Beach is a five-minute drive and popular with families for rock-pooling, surfing and its small marine centre, with the Old Mill cafe above the sand. The South West Coast Path runs both ways from the village; head one way for the Yealm ferry across to Newton Ferrers, the other for Heybrook Bay and views out to the Mewstone. Wembury itself has a pub, a village shop and a Post Office, with historic Langdon Court about a mile off. Pilgrims Rest opens from 1 March to 30 September, and bookings are made directly with the site by phone. Come to this corner of South Devon for cliff-top walking and quiet nights rather than resort bustle, and bring everything you need for a simple stay.
