Why campers love it here
About this site
Salt Pig the Farm at Putlake is a family-friendly campsite on a small working farm at Langton Matravers on the Isle of Purbeck, about five minutes from Swanage in Dorset. Formerly Putlake Adventure Farm, it is now run by the Salt Pig company, and camping shares the site with a much-loved animal farm, café and farm shop. Pitches are on grass with no electric hook-ups, and you choose your own spot when you arrive. The site takes tents and campervans up to VW T5 size only: it cannot accept touring caravans or larger motorhomes, so it suits tent campers and small camper vans after a back-to-basics stay. Off-ground fire pits and barbecues are welcome, and facilities include toilets, token-operated hot showers, a washing-up area and a shop stocking firewood, kindling and basics. Dogs are welcome on leads for a small charge. The adventure farm, with animals, indoor soft play and a playground, is charged separately (from £6.50 for adults and £12.99 for children), and on selected evenings the smoker, barbecue and pizza oven are fired up. There is direct off-road access to the South West Coast Path and the dinosaur footprints, with Swanage beach, Dancing Ledge and Corfe Castle all close. Camping is seasonal, roughly mid-May to early September, from £10 a night for one adult and a car.
